New Seminar and Briefing sessions have been added to the speaking programme at the UK’s leading freight transport event. Social networking facilities also initiated to enhance the accessibility of visitors to the presentations
23rd March, 2011
Now in its fourth year Multimodal 2011 will be held from 5th to 7th April at the NEC in Birmingham. An extensive Seminar and Briefing programme is already in place and additional sessions are now announced.
These include, on Day 1 “Key Performance Indices (KPIs) as a Contract Incentive”. Nigel Kotani, Partner in solicitors LLC Law LLP will be explaining how to get the most out of service providers, at the best price, by using KPIs as a carrot not a stick.
Trade Extensions has announced a new case study presentation on Day 3, “Sustainable Transport Tendering – the Mars Approach”, to be presented by Mars Logistics Services Buyer, Gytis Racius. Sustainability is a key commitment of Mars, the world’s third-largest food manufacturer with annual revenues of US$30 billion.
“Mars is sharing its experience in sustainable transport tendering and that is something that I am convinced is close to the heart of many responsible companies involved in the supply chain,” said Trade Extensions CEO Garry Mansell. “This session complements our existing programme of highly relevant logistics briefings that look set to become very well supported by Multimodal 2011 visitors.”
For the first time at Multimodal an interactive project designed by a joint team from IFW and The Shippers Voice, based on the theme “How social media can help you to do your business,” will be launched. In the run up to Multimodal, participants will be able to receive a ten point “Masterclass” on what can be achieved through social media. There will also be a facility for sending questions to the presentation panel to be answered on the day of the Seminar. A selection will be chosen and the answers sent out live using Twitter and Linkedin enabling those not in attendance to quiz the experts.
“Two hundred million people are tweeting 140 million tweets of 140 characters daily – they can’t all be wrong,” said Emma Murray, director of Meantime Communications, organisers of the seminar sessions. “Eighty percent of companies worldwide are using social media of some sort for recruitment – it is not a fad, the question is how can we harness its power to our benefit?”
To take part, start following IFW and the Shippers’ Voice on Twitter and send a question to the panel via Twitter http://twitter.com/ifwnet or http://twitter.com/ShippersVoice or LinkedIn at www.ifw-net.com and www.shippersvoice.com
Bookings for the informative and highly pertinent seminar programme at this year’s Multimodal are at unprecedented levels. Many of the sessions are filling fast and a number of sessions, as outlined above are being added to the selection already on offer, featuring 35 expert speakers and panelists.
The free-to-attend seminars, organised by The Shippers’ Voice and Trade Extensions, will transport Multimodal 2011 visitors straight to the substance of new trends in the industry without becoming overwhelmed by information excess. There will be an emphasis on choice and flexibility in what sessions to attend thus enhancing accessibility.
Early signs are that this approach has found immediate favour, with around 1,500 seminar/briefing places booked and numbers growing daily. Initial pre-event registrations show Container Shipping – Market Trends and Contract Risks, European Freight Market – The Year Past and Predictions for the Future, Collaborative Logistics Tutorial, Ports Add Value to the Supply Chain case study and the best practice tutorial Resilience and Agility leading in demand.

About Multimodal:
Taking place from 5th to 7th April 2011 at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre (NEC), Multimodal aims to attract a large group of exhibitors and visitors from across the whole spectrum of freight transport, logistics and supply chain service providers than it ever has before.
Multimodal 2011 is the only UK event that brings together all sectors of freight transport under a single roof. The Seminars and Briefings which are an integral part of the event, have scheduled an enlightening and thought-provoking range of topics, tackled in an interactive fashion by panels of experts or as briefings presented by representatives from centres of excellence. Topics range from insight into the media, customs, container shipping trends, container swaps, security, reducing empty loads and ports’ role in adding value, to e-sourcing, collaborative logistics, supply chain optimisation, key performance indices (KPIs) and logistics data analytics.
