New Joint Asia – Australia Service Beefs Up Evergreen’s Offering

June 14, 2018 – Evergreen is expanding its container transport choices for customers between Asia and Australia by teaming up with Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) and APL to provi180614 Ever Blissde a new weekly Central & South China-Australia Express (CAE) service. Five classic Panamax ships with capacities averaging 4,600 TEU will be deployed on the new service, two will be operated by Evergreen Line and the remaining three by HMM and APL. The first sailing is scheduled around mid-August, with regular port calls at Ningbo, Shanghai, Yantian, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

CAE will augment the line’s two current weekly services (NEAX and CAT) that call at ports in China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Australia. The expansion in service offerings is in response to the increasing trade demand on the route. Australia’s economy is reported to have entered stable growth. The rising population, mainly from robust immigration, has not only promoted the expansion of the consumer and housing markets, but also the development of public infrastructure – all stimulating cargo demand on this trade.

In addition to strengthening the current Asia-Australia network coverage, the expanded capacity also provides shippers with more reliable service. Evergreen Line has long cultivated the Australian shipping market, establishing ‘Evergreen Shipping Agency (Australia) Pty. Ltd.’ in 2002. From its base of three offices located at Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, the line will continue to assist shippers to enhance their market competitiveness in the region.

Evergreen Opens New office in Cambodia

April 03, 2018 – Evergreen Shipping Services (Cambodia) Company Limited was established this month in response to both customer demand for increased service in the country and the potential for trade growth boosted by an average rise in GDP of 7% during the past several years.

The opening of this office will continue the line’s cultivation of the shipping market in Cambodia, matching transportation demands with convenient shipping services, assisting cargo owners to seize business opportunities and enhance their market competitiveness.

After joining the economic confederation of states in Southeast Asia (ASEAN) in 1999, Cambodia’s open economy policy have attracted foreign investment, and has enabled the successful development of its manufacturing industry. This has resulted in significant growth in both import and export volumes.

Evergreen currently delivers cargoes to/from Cambodia by common feeder, via trans-shipment over the Vietnamese port of Cai Mep and Singapore, where long haul vessels connect into Evergreen’s global network across 115 countries.

To further strengthen the development of local business, Evergreen will utilize two containerships of 1,618 teu to launch a new weekly China-Vietnam-Thailand (CVT) service. The first sailing of the service will be from Shekou on April 25 and call at Hong Kong, Ho Chi Minh, Sihanoukville, Laem Chabang, Haiphong and back to Shekou.  Evergreen looks forward to providing more efficient and reliable transportation service for the future development of the Cambodian economy.

Evergreen Launches New Electronic Documentation Function in Partnership with Bolero International

Evergreen Line introduces paperless Bill of Lading (B/L) and dispatch documentation via its ShipmentLink digital portal, enhancing connectivity for exporters and importers with banks, insurers, regulators, customs and port authorities. Evergreen is the first container carrier to integrate with Bolero’s proven electronic Bill of Lading (eBL) solution.

March 01, 2018 – Evergreen, in line with its avowed mission to deliver the highest standards of customer service through continual improvement, has introduced two new Intelligent Services – the intelligent i-B/L (Bill of Lading) and i-Dispatch, a solution that delivers documents associated with such transactions.

These new services, provided in partnership with Bolero International, will lower shippers’ costs while making data transfer more accurate, efficient, reliable and secure. Accessed via the line’s established ShipmentLink portal, the ability to achieve paperless data exchange among all parties concerned in a shipment will significantly simplify supply chain linkages.

Bolero’s eBL technology has been integrated into Evergreen’s ShipmentLink customer portal, delivering the benefits of almost 20 years’ experience of proven, secure and accepted electronic transfer of Bills of Lading (B/Ls) in the shipping community.

The advantages of this new integration for Evergreen’s container shippers start with the rapid issuance and transmission of the i-B/L. This is helpful in all cases but particularly for short-sea shipments when a paper Bill of Lading can sometimes arrive later than the vessel, making it difficult for importers to pick up cargo on a timely basis.

However the advantages of i-B/L do not end there. The paperless environment allows reviews and alterations to be undertaken online and speeds up cash-flow by avoiding the delays associated with traditional documents. Carriers can release goods and banks can release payment to shippers far more quickly.

With Bolero’s assistance, the new i-Dispatch function facilitates electronic exchange of the wide range of documentation associated with shipments in addition to the B/L, including packing lists, commercial invoices, certificates of origin and other customs-related credentials, licenses and inspection reports. This avoids the dangers of loss, fraudulent copying and errors associated with paper documents and where necessary, transmission can be in an encrypted form.

Evergreen is pleased therefore to add i-B/L and i-Dispatch to its existing suite of electronic functions, including shipment booking and tracking, for the use of customers via Evergreen ShipmentLink. Partnership with Bolero, introducing new digital functionality, marks the expansion of the established online portal into high-volume container trades.

Ian Kerr, CEO of Bolero, said: “We are delighted that Evergreen, such a major global container carrier, is partnering with us to help transform an industry on which world trade depends. Bolero’s eBL platform has already been proven in bulk cargo trades and initial container-based transactions by corporates such as Cargill, BHP Billiton and Reliance Industries, but now with Evergreen we are taking a very significant next-step in the digitization of world trade by putting our technology at the disposal of a wider community of container shippers and NVOCCs.”

Evergreen Line remains committed to bringing technology to the aid of its customers wherever and whenever possible. Whether in the realm of digitalization, environmental sustainability or efficiencies in transport operations, the line will continue to be at the forefront of innovation and the extension of service capability.

Evergreen Charters Twelve 11,000 TEU Containerships

180212 Evergreen Charters Twelve 11,000 TEU Containerships

Evergreen Marine Corp. (EMC) entered into an agreement with Shoei Kisen Kaisha today to charter twelve 11,000 TEU class containerships. The charter parties were signed by EMC Chairman Mr. Anchor Chang (left) and President of Shoei Kisen Kaisha Mr. Yukito Higaki (right).

February 12, 2018 – Evergreen Marine Corp. (EMC) entered into an agreement with Shoei Kisen Kaisha today to charter twelve 11,000 TEU class containerships. The charter parties were signed by EMC Chairman Mr. Anchor Chang and President of Shoei Kisen Kaisha Mr. Yukito Higaki.

The plans to charter these vessels were approved early last month at the board meetings of Greencompass Marine S.A. and Evergreen Marine (Hong Kong) Ltd. respectively. The two subsidiaries of EMC will each charter six vessels.  All twelve ships will be newbuildings and are due to be delivered from the third quarter of 2020 through to the last quarter of 2021.

The ship dimensions are about 333.9 meters in length, 48.4 meters wide, able to carry 11,850 TEU with a deadweight of 127,000 metric tons at a scantling draft of 15.5 meters. The vessels are designed to sail at a service speed of 23 knots and can pass through the Panama Canal.

The ship’s length over all is shorter than those of ultra-large containerships currently plying the Asia – Europe trade, making it easier to manoeuver the ships during berthing or departure and bringing greater flexibility in fleet deployment.

The newbuildings’ design will also adopt a twin-island concept, separating wheelhouse and accommodation block from the engine room and funnel area. This arrangement increases navigational visibility as well as the permissible height of container stacks on deck and therefore the cargo loading capacity.

In addition, the ships are specially designed to enable the loading of 40 foot containers on top of two 20 foot units; also known as “Russian stowage” or “mixed stowage”.  Such arrangement can not only increase the vessel’s loading flexibility but also maximize cargo-carrying capability.

Evergreen Line’s current operating fleet incorporates around 200 containerships with a total capacity above 1.1 million TEU.  To further enhance service quality and competitiveness, the carrier is continuing its fleet renewal program.  With delivery of these newbuildings, Evergreen will redeliver older tonnage upon expiry of their charter agreements. In this way, the efficiency of its operating fleet will be optimized and the competitiveness of its services enhanced.

February 08, 2018 – Evergreen Marine Corp. (EMC) entered into an agreement with Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) today to order eight 11,000 TEU containerships. The contracts were signed by EMC Chairman Anchor Chang and SHI President & CEO J.O. Nam. Four ships will be owned by EMC’s subsidiary, Greencompass Marine S.A. and a further four by Evergreen Marine (Hong Kong) Ltd. The newbuildings are planned to be delivered from the first quarter of 2020 through the second quarter of 2021.

Evergreen Marine Corp. emphasizes that the aim of this newbuilding program is to meet future market demand and to continue with its ongoing fleet renewal.  On delivery of these new ships, Evergreen will redeliver older chartered vessels as their charter periods expire to help optimize the efficiency of its operating fleet and enhance the competitiveness of its services.

The ship dimensions are 334 meters long, 48.4 meters wide, able to carry 19 rows of containers on deck and has a scantling draft of 15.5 meters.  The vessels are designed to sail at a service speed of 23 knots and can pass through the Panama Canal. The ship hulls are shorter than those of ultra large containerships plying the Asia – Europe trade, making it easier to maneuver the ships during berthing or departure and brings greater flexibility in fleet deployment.

The newbuilding design adopts a twin-island concept, separating wheelhouse and accommodation block from engine room and funnel area.  The arrangement increases navigation visibility as well as the permissible height of container stacks on deck and therefore the cargo loading capacity.

In line with the stringent eco-friendly criteria that Evergreen has imposed on its own operation, the ships are equipped with various environmental protection devices, including a ballast water treatment system and alternative maritime power to fully comply with the regulations of international maritime agencies and authorities concerned.

Evergreen Vessel in Seafarer Rescue

170712 Ever Diadem saving seafarers - 2

July 12, 2017  : The officers and crew of Evergreen Line’s containership EVER DIADEM joined forces with another ship to successfully rescue thirty seafarers forced to abandon their burning fishing vessel off the coast of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean on the 9th of July.

While en route from Singapore to Durban EVER DIADEM’s crew found the distressed seafarers drifting in two lifeboats having abandoned flaming HSIANG FUH No. 6, a Taiwan-flagged fishing boat. Captain Tai Yen-Tang of EVER DIADEM immediately notified MRCC (Maritime Rescue Coordination Center, South Africa) and ordered his crew to stand by for a rescue operat
ion. In view of the numbers involved, Captain Tai also requested SBI ANTARES, a bulk carrier registered in Marshall Islands, and located nearby to join the rescue mission.

This region off the African coast is notorious for rampant piracy which posed a potential yet serious threat to the rescue operation. However with the safety of the fishermen paramount, EVER DIADEM’s captain and crew braved the risks and succeeded in rescuing sixteen from one of the lifeboats. SBI ANTARES then followed up by saving those from the other lifeboat.

Those rescued included three from Taiwan, seven Filipinos, four from Vietnam and sixteen Indonesians. They received good care on board EVER DIADEM as the ship continued its voyage to Durban. Evergreen notified the owner of the fishing boat, requesting that they take responsibility for their crew in Durban and arrange their repatriation.

EVER DIADEM is one of Evergreen Line’s「D」type vessels with a capacity of 4,211 TEUs.  The ship is currently deployed in the carrier’s Far East – Africa Express (FAX) service, calling at Shanghai, Ningbo, Keelung, Singapore and Durban.

The accolade was presented at a ceremony in Singapore last week and was accepted on behalf of the carrier by Ms. Molly Mok, Chairman of Evergreen Marine (Singapore) Pte Ltd.

Evergreen Line is committed to providing this quality service through consistent investment in people, ships and infrastructure to build a reliable global network with a highly efficient IT platform. Evergreen Recognized for Corporate Governance Excellence for the Third Consecutive Year

May 24, 2017 – The Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) recently announced the result of its third annual corporate governance evaluation of both listed and Over-The-Counter (OTC) companies in Taiwan.  Evergreen Marine Corporation (EMC) is ranked among the top 5% of all listed companies for the third year in a row and is the only shipping company recognized for such excellent performance. Honoring outstanding contributions in this realm, TWSE presented the award to EMC Executive Vice President Eric Hsieh at a ceremony which took place at the Taipei International Convention Center yesterday.

In line with global trends, the evaluation highlights the importance of corporate governance and requires both listed and OTC companies to disclose not only financial data but also non-fiscal information.  The KPIs included in this evaluation assess protection of shareholders’ rights; equitable treatment of shareholders; board composition and management; information transparency and corporate social responsibility.  This year a total of 843 listed and 653 OTC companies were appraised.  Among the listed companies, as few as 21 joined EMC in achieving a rank in the top 5% for the third consecutive year.

In order to fulfil the requirements to attain a high standard of corporate governance, EMC invited senior accountants and lawyer to join the company’s board as independent directors, calling upon their expertise to strengthen the board’s managing and supervising functions. With regard to information transparency, EMC publishes an annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) report in addition to financial statements. The report enables EMC’s stakeholders, including investors, customers and service partners to understand the implementation of the company’s policies related to corporate social responsibility, business integrity, competition compliance and the comprehensive welfare of its employees.

Evergreen Group founder and chairman Dr. Y.F. Chang once said, “The ultimate goal of an enterprise is to contribute to the well-being of human life and to give back to society.”  EMC adheres to this philosophy, applying it in practice through support of various charities and social well-being activities.

In 2016 EMC continued in its efforts to sponsor charitable activities that illustrate the company’s commitment to this philosophy.  During the aftermath of an earthquake near Tainan City in southern Taiwan, EMC supported the relief efforts of Chang Yung-Fa Foundation, the charity foundation of Evergreen Group named in honor of its founder.  In addition, EMC also offered aid for the care of a Search and Rescue (SAR) dog injured in the line of duty; supporting its training and the equipment needs for future rescue missions.

Through other charitable activities, EMC donated servers and personal computers to schools in the mountainous Hsinchu County to enhance their online education capabilities.  Furthermore, EMC continues to work with Chang Yung-Fa Foundation to promote maritime education in rural areas of Taiwan, encouraging poor students to pursue a maritime career in order to help improve their families’ financial conditions.

Together with other ship owners of Evergreen Group, EMC establishes a policy which safeguards sustainable environment for the earth.  Designed in 2003, Evergreen’s award-winning S-type eco-ships demonstrated its forward-looking initiatives to protect the oceans with stringent standards set above the requirements of international regulations. Delivered from 2012 onwards, the carrier’s L-type containerships featured even more advanced technologies to enhance their environmental protection capabilities.  Commencing in the third quarter of 2017, Evergreen will take delivery of its B-type newbuildings, which are equipped with innovative Sea-Sword Bow technology to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

In addition to its efforts to optimize vessel design, Evergreen has also been putting sustainable concepts into practice, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions in port communities by voluntary speed reduction. Some preventative actions can have multiple benefits, slow steaming for instance not only reduces fuel consumption and emissions but also lowers the risk of whale collisions with ships. In 2016 Evergreen has also been honored with an environmental protection award by the Port Authority of Los Angeles for voluntarily cooperating in a vessel speed reduction program, contributing to cleaner air on shore and whale conservation in the Santa Barbara Channel region. Full details of Evergreen’s initiatives to mitigate its carbon footprint are available on the ‘Environmental Guardian’ section of Evergreen Line’s website.

Implementation of corporate governance policies has become an important global trend among responsible companies.  In harmony with striving for enhanced profitability, many enterprises now also see their roles as guardians of social welfare and environmental protection.  As a strategic partner for shippers around the world, Evergreen is committed to facilitating world trade and, while continuing with its obligation to create profit, it is committed to improve the welfare of its employees and give back to society as a whole.
