Kempten, Munich. December 1, 2017. As part of the presentation of the European Transport Award for Sustainability (ETPN), this year Dachser received the Special Award for Corporate Social Responsibility. The company came first in the Transportation and Forwarding Companies category.

Awarded by Munich-based specialist logistics publisher Huss-Verlag, the Special Award recognizes a company’s commitment to sustainability. It takes into account environmental protection, corporate social responsibility, corporate culture, and a commitment to the science community and to safeguarding the future. A key consideration is for this commitment to be in line with corporate objectives. “What most impressed us about Dachser was the sustainability of its overall concept as a family-run company,” the jury said.

“We have been committed to social, ecological, and economic sustainability for many years. This award is both a welcome recognition of our efforts and motivation to continue,” says Dachser CEO Bernhard Simon. Dr. Andreas Froschmayer, Corporate Director Corporate Development, Strategy & PR at Dachser, accepted the award in Munich on behalf of the company.

The jury was made up of six editors of trade publications at Munich’s Huss-Verlag publishing house. Each member of the jury was permitted to propose up to three candidates for each of this year’s categories: Transportation and Forwarding Companies, and KEP Services.

Stans/Kempten, July 27, 2017. Logistics provider Dachser is investing some 6.5 million euros in a new 20,000-square-meter facility in Stans in Tyrol, Austria. Dachser Austria has now held the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the new terminal, which is scheduled to begin operations in late 2017 and will create 40 new jobs.

Dachser’s new logistics center in Tyrol will provide customers with comprehensive transport and warehousing logistics, replacing its site in Hall. The facility will have 30 gates and a storage and logistics area covering approximately 4,700 square meters. Another section of the building offers space for additional loading stations and parking spaces.

With both Günther Platter, governor of Tyrol, and Michel Huber, mayor of Stans, in attendance, Dachser’s managing director European logistics Dachser Austria Günter Hirschbeck and his Tyrolean team performed the symbolic breaking of the ground at the Tyrol logistics center. “Over the next few months, a modern facility will be erected at this site, which will form an important part of the logistics network in western Austria and beyond,” Hirschbeck said in his opening speech. “With this new site, we are supporting the region and are adding 40 new jobs to the existing 45,” he said.

Starting in late 2017, Dachser’s Stans-based facility will offer its customers everything from a single source: customized contract logistics services and a direct connection to the seamless European transport network and worldwide air and sea freight services by Dachser Air & Sea Logistics.

With ten locations in Austria, Dachser has a strong branch network with which to offer its customers ideal market proximity. The Tyrolean terminal will deliver precision-timed shipments to 362 locations throughout Europe. Daily shipments to eastern Europe and the Balkans will go through the Eurohub in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Azkar becomes Dachser

Kempten/Munich, May 9, 2017. In roughly four years, Dachser has integrated its Iberian subsidiary Azkar Group into its European road network. The overland transport organizations will operate under the names of Dachser Spain and Dachser Portugal in the future. This was announced today by CEO Bernhard Simon, COO Road Logistics Michael Schilling, and Juan Antonio Quintana, Managing Director European Logistics Iberia, at the transport logistic trade fair in Munic170509 DACHSER European Logistics Iberiah.

This rebranding is the culmination of an integration process that began in January 2013 with Dachser’s acquisition of Azkar. The companies had already been cooperating since 2007, and one year later Dachser purchased a stake of 10 percent in its then partner for Spain. “The two companies were an excellent match right from the word go. We share the same values, and we have the same corporate culture and business vision,” explains Bernhard Simon. “On this basis, we were able to advance quickly and smoothly with the integration. Simultaneously, we have achieved profitable growth on the Iberian Peninsula every year since the takeover.”

Since the acquisition, Dachser has closely integrated its organizations in Spain and Portugal into its European groupage network. The 70 daily import and export lines that existed in 2013 have increased to 130 today, while the number of shipments from and to Europe grew by 40 percent over the same period. Michael Schilling emphasizes the advantages of a standardized European groupage network: “What you see is what you get. If it’s got Dachser’s name on it, then there’s Dachser in it – customers can bank on that. In addition to integrated IT systems, standardized processes, workflows, and network rules are the foundations for reliability, safety, and quality.”

Switch to Dachser colors
A rebranding is accompanying the end of the integration. The national subsidiaries will operate under the names of Dachser Spain and Dachser Portugal in the future. “That was our goal, which was advocated by employees, management, and customers,” underscores Juan Antonio Quintana. “The Dachser network underpins our success. We’re now playing in a completely different league than we were four years ago, and we can support customers in their worldwide growth. Accordingly, it is only logical that we take the next step and also become Dachser in our branding.” Five branches – in Barcelona, Bilbao, Malaga, Porto, and Valencia – are already decked out in the blue and yellow colors, and the rest are due to follow by 2020. Of the approximately 2,000 short-haul trucks, over 70 percent already sport the Dachser branding today.

“Being united under the Dachser banner benefits employees and benefits customers even more,” concludes Bernhard Simon. “That’s why, with network expansions in mind, we’re investing in jobs, facilities, and in the integration of systems and processes. On the Iberian Peninsula today, we’re beginning a new chapter in our shared success story.”

Dachser on the Iberian Peninsula
In Spain and Portugal, Dachser is active with its European Logistics (formerly Azkar Group) and Air & Sea Logistics (formerly Transunion) business lines and employs 3,353 people at 87 locations. In the Food Logistics business line, Dachser has been collaborating with the partner Logifrío since the start of 2016 as part of the European Food Network. As one of the largest logistics providers on the Iberian Peninsula, Dachser is positioning itself in overland transport as an export-oriented one-stop shop for all logistics requirements. This includes groupage and full-truck-load transports as well as warehousing, value added services, and the Iberian B2B parcel business. New customers for international business are opening up to Dachser Spain and Dachser Portugal in the Business Line European Logistics through avenues such as the Dachser DIY-Logistics and Dachser Chem-Logistics industry solutions. For customers from the chemical industry, a dangerous goods organization was introduced in 48 branches in 2016. One location has already been evaluated in accordance with SQAS.

The air and sea freight organizations in Spain and Portugal, which are headed by Federico Camáñez, Managing Director Air & Sea Logistics Southern Europe, are present at the main airports and seaports by virtue of eleven locations and ensure connection to intercontinental markets. To this end, an air freight gateway was established in Madrid in 2017.

On the Iberian Peninsula in 2016, Dachser transported some 20.5 million shipments with a weight of around 3.0 million tons and achieved sales revenue of around EUR 741 million. In total, Dachser offers its customers in Spain and Portugal a warehouse area of 424,000 square meters with 362.000 pallet spaces.

Kempten, April 20, 2017. The Chemical Industry Association (Verband der Chemischen Industrie e.V. or VCI) has extended its purchasing alliance with Dachser for another two years. The partners have enjoyed a successful collaboration on European groupage shipments from Germany since 2009 and extended it to include Air & Sea freight transport in 2015.

Association members, mostly medium-sized companies in the chemicals industry, benefit from standardized transportation and warehousing services for their goods consignments on pallets. A central dangerous goods team and 180 regional dangerous goods safety advisors ensure safe transport in a seamless Dachser logistics network consisting of 409 branch offices. Complementing this is a specialized industry team focused on the specific logistics needs of the chemical industry.

“As exports increase, the chemical industry in Germany is growing. In addition, production sites are now scattered across the whole globe,” says Michael Kriegel, Department Head DachserChem-Logistics. “With this in mind, medium-sized companies now see the advantage of having integrated and IT-connected supply chains.”

“Our longstanding partnership with Dachser has been very positive, so we’re pleased to continue the cooperation,” says Johann-Peter Nickel, Head of Economics, Finance and IT at VCI. “Not only does it mean our members can buy reliable and high-quality logistics services, but in Dachser they also get a partner that perfectly understands their requirements and speaks the language of the chemical industry. In the complex business world our members now find themselves in, that is of extraordinary value.”

Combined industry expertise

With Dachser Chem-Logistics, Dachser has created a specialized logistics industry solution that is exactly tailored to the requirements of the chemicals industry. In doing so, the globally-positioned logistics provider took its standardized core services within the groupage network (shipping, warehousing, and IT) and combined them with specific service components for producers of chemical products. As the contact party for companies in the chemicals industry, branch offices can consult with an available centralized team of industry experts.

Dachser transports over 3.2 million hazardous goods shipments each year; locations in Europe that are specially organized to handle the storage of hazardous goods play a key role in this regard. Currently, 23 branch offices in Germany, Denmark, Austria, Hungary and Romania are evaluated based on the Safety and Quality Assessment System SQAS) questionnaire— administered by the European Chemical Industry Council (or CEFIC)—in the transport, service and/or warehousing modules.

Dachser UK Continues Promising Growth on the Back of Thriving Exports

4 April 2017Dachser Brackmills April14 #2

The logistics service provider, Dachser, has enjoyed another year of growth in the UK, seeing net sales for 2016 rise by almost 12 % to £ 66.1 M.

The company’s single most important business sector, European road export services, has been at the forefront of that growth, increasing by 15% and accounting for just under 45 % of Dachser’s UK revenues.

‘We recognise that exporters need to rest assured that their customers’ orders are delivered on time and in-full without exception,’ explains Nick Lowe, Dachser’s UK Managing Director. ‘This is true regardless of where the goods are heading, whether in the UK, Europe or further afield. It’s our mission to ensure that companies can rely on us to fulfil these expectations on an on-going basis, building up their own confidence and creating a solid platform from which to develop further growth in their export sales.’

With Brexit now clearly on the horizon, there are more and more yet unanswered questions regarding the shape of UK / European supply chains in the future. However Nick Lowe is upbeat about the prospects for UK exporters and the degree to which they will be able to compete with their peers located in the EU itself.

‘It’s true that there many open questions about such matters as Customs clearance and the application of product standards,’ he says, ‘but for us it’s a question of keeping close to our customers and listening to their evolving needs as things become clearer, re-engineering our services to whatever extent is necessary. Our AEO accreditation is a good and reliable basis for further development of our Customs clearance services for EU consignments, something which could well become very important to consider as the EU / UK negotiations progress. We also offer a full Contract Logistics service, both in the UK and within Europe, should customers decide to build up local and / or European warehoused stock holdings to serve their different markets in the future.‘

It is Dachser’s daily connections to a wide range of key hub locations across a comprehensive European network ensuring a fast, reliable and competitive service that is at the core of the Company’s continued growth. The network comprises over 400 locations in a total of 37 countries: 24 of those countries are the responsibility of Dachser’s own country organisations and branch offices, and the remaining 13 countries are served by strategic partners.

All in all, comprehensive IT connectivity and integration within the network provide full transparency in cargo tracking and quality monitoring, giving exporters peace of mind and comfort that their cargo is in safe hands en route to their European customers.

As regards future developments, the combination of contract logistics and value added services is seen by the Company as a major strategic growth area, and over the past few years it has seen several new business wins especially in the retail sector including Excise Bond warehousing and UK & Ireland distribution. The development accelerated soon after the opening of Dachser’s new Northampton logistics centre in 2014, and a second warehouse in close proximity had to be secured towards the end of 2015 in order to provide the necessary additional capacity for both racked and block-stack products.

Looking further afield, through its global ‘interlocking’ programme, Dachser is also able to offer international air & sea freight logistics solutions, helping its customers to reach new markets with ease and to further develop existing ones.

As the Company continues to grow, it is widening the scope of its already well-established Apprenticeship programme. The success of this programme is at the heart of Dachser’s strategy to provide their staff with appropriate support and training in order to enhance their career development and to create an attractive and rewarding working environment. In 2016, its workforce grew by 7% to 385 people.

Dachser is growing and investing in the future

Kempten, Munich. April 4, 2017. Dachser continued to grow in fiscal year 2016, generating consolidated gross revenue of around 5.71 billion euros—representing a consolidated revenue increase of 1.7 percent on the previous year. The number of shipments rose by 2.4 percent to 80.0 million, and tonnage by 2.4 percent to 38.2 million metric tons. This growth was driven by European overland transport as well as food logistics.

“Despite the volatility of the global economy, we were able to maintain our stable market position through organic growth at the previous years’ levels, while simultaneously developing solutions for tomorrow’s market,” says Dachser CEO Bernhard Simon.

Business development in specific sectors

In the Road Logistics business field, which accounts for 75 percent of Dachser’s total revenue, the European Logistics (EL) business line profited from the company’s consistent export strategy, which resulted in a 2.4-percent increase in gross revenue to 3.5 billion euros. Shipments and tonnage increased by 2.2 and 2.3 percent, respectively. “Our country organizations have benefited all around from the strong demand for cross-border transports in the European single market. As far as the exchange of goods is concerned, Europe is and will remain stable and closely interconnected,” comments Simon.

Dachser Food Logistics once again achieved the highest growth rate, with revenue increasing by 9.5 percent to 812 million euros. It has been buoyed primarily by strong domestic business in Germany’s consumer goods sector. The second component in its success is the European Food Network for cross-border food transport.

With 13 partners, 10 associate members, and regular line haul services among 34 countries, the Food Network has the greatest geographic coverage in Europe. “Our market-leading level of quality and the positive effects of the European Food Hub in Erlensee near Frankfurt contributed to this satisfying growth,” Simon explains.

In the Dachser Air & Sea Logistics business field, revenue decreased by 3 percent to 1.54 billion euros, while the number of shipments remained constant. This decrease in revenue was due to low international freight rates, especially in sea freight, and negative currency effects. “We know how to deal with the volatile nature of international air and sea freight, and are consistently expanding this business field,” says Simon.

Dachser offers its customers in this segment worldwide supply chains, routes that closely interlock with the overland transport network in Europe, and uniform IT systems. The company also aims to attract customers outside Europe by expanding intra-Asian transport operations and through the targeted organic growth of its network in the Americas.

Investments in networks and in research and development

Dachser has increased the volume of its planned investments from 125 million euros in 2016 to 177 million euros in 2017. The main focus of these investments lies on expanding network locations, IT systems, and research and development. “We are intensively studying all aspects of the logistics solutions of the future and the extent to which they can be digitalized. Dachser has launched group-wide innovation processes at numerous levels in order to maintain its pioneering role in the industry,” Simon emphasizes.

The logistics provider has also been investing in the expansion of its contract logistics services, creating more than 350,000 square meters of additional warehouse space providing room for over 300,000 pallets in the past two years alone. Dachser can thus now offer its customers over two million pallet spaces in almost 200 warehouses on four continents.

Dachser invests in its overland network

170328 Dachser-warhouse-truck

Kempten, March 28, 2017. Dachser is currently creating new capacity for its overland network at several German locations. In the north, the Bremen and Hamburg locations are being expanded. Building is also under way in Alsdorf near Aachen and Dissen near Bielefeld. In total, Dachser is investing some EUR 60 million at the four locations, creating nearly 35,000 square meters of additional warehouse and office space.

“By continuously expanding and modernizing our locations, we are ensuring that Dachser’s overland network offers consistently high quality,” says Michael Schilling, Chief Operations Officer (COO) Road Logistics at Dachser.

More capacity in northern Germany

Employees were able to move into the new buildings at Dachser’s Bremen location at the beginning of March. Dachser invested almost EUR 20 million in the transit terminal south of the Weser, creating 8,800 square meters of warehouse space and 102 docks for the Bremen logistics center. A further 2,500 square meters are reserved for offices.

A new transit terminal is also being built on the premises of the Dachser Food Logistics branch in Hamburg. With 6,800 square meters of total area, the facilities will be operationally and physically separate and will be used to handle food items as well as industrial goods from the neighboring Dachser European Logistics branch. Another 1,200 square meters of office space is being built as well. The work, which represents an investment of some EUR 15 million, is scheduled to be completed in August.

Investments for Dachser Food Logistics

Dachser is expanding its Alsdorf location at a separate facility located within the border triangle between Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. The new temperature-controlled Food Logistics transit terminal and contract logistics warehouse will add 6,800 square meters, 2,500 of which will be reserved for a food warehouse. Dachser has been operating in Alsdorf since 1985 and is now investing EUR 12.5 million in new buildings for the location, which is scheduled to begin operations in July. At the same time, another EUR 3.5 million will be used to extensively renovate the existing facility.
