GEODIS receives its 6th Gold Rating from EcoVadis

EcoVadis, the ratings agency for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) performance in global supply chains, has given GEODIS an overall grade of 72/100 (+2 points compared to 2018).

This year, GEODIS was again commended by EcoVadis with the “Gold” recognition level. The Group has therefore continued its upward progression, compared to 2018, with an overall grade of 72/100*. This excellent rating puts GEODIS among the top 300 companies out of a total of 30,000 assessed. EcoVadis therefore recognizes GEODIS as one of the most advanced and committed businesses all sectors combined, in terms of environmental, social, ethical and responsible purchasing approaches.

Marie-Christine Lombard, Chief Executive Officer of GEODIS says: “I am very pleased as this is the highest result since the Group’s first assessment in 2009. It recognizes more than 10 years of working to carry out concrete and consistent CSR actions as well as our unwavering commitment to satisfy all stakeholders, fully including society at large.

The EcoVadis evaluation focuses on four topics for which GEODIS obtained the following scores:

– Environment: Top 1% of companies assessed by EcoVadis – 90/100

– Labor & Human Rights: Top 3% – 70/100

– Sustainable Procurement: Top 3% – 60/100

– Fair Business Practices: Top 9% – 60/100

The significant progress (+10 points) on the fair business practices theme is particularly related to the measures set up in the context of the GDPR**, for example:

– Procedures and measures implemented to protect the confidential data of our customers

– Measures to protect the customer or the customer’s data against unauthorized access or disclosure

– Restrictions on the type and amount of confidential information collected and stored

Philippe de Carné, Executive Vice President Business Development, Innovation & Business Excellence, comments: “This recognition demonstrates the successful implementation of our CSR approach and encourages us to go further. Whether it concerns data privacy, HR practices and of course taking action to reduce the environmental impact of our activities, we are committed to reinforcing the scope of the actions we undertake, with the objective to reach the best standards of corporate citizenship.”

GEODIS positioned as a Leader for its Completeness of Vision and Ability to Execute

Paris – Global supply chain operator GEODIS has been recognized by Gartner as a Leader in the May 2019 Magic Quadrant for Third-Party Logistics in North America. The report evaluated 19 third-party “logistics providers doing significant business in the North American region (the U.S., Canada and Mexico).”

According to the report, “In North America in 2018, $220 billion was spent on the logistics provider industry, a 9.8% increase year over year. These providers enable customers to outsource, either completely or partially, their logistics operations to external specialists. Many companies view logistics outsourcing as an effective strategy primarily to reduce costs, but more and more customers are seeking innovative solutions that can improve process and service as well.”

“GEODIS is honored to be recognized by Gartner as a Leader in its 2019 Magic Quadrant for Third-Party Logistics, North America,” says GEODIS Americas CEO & President, Randy Tucker. “Our customers gave accolades for our commitment to try new things. We believe Gartner’s recognition validates this core value of GEODIS. From our network of 19 logistics campuses, 190 locations, and 13,500 employees throughout the Americas we are able to offer an enhanced, global end-to-end supply chain solution.”

According to Gartner, “Leaders rate well on the highly weighted criteria for both Ability to Execute and Completeness of Vision. These strong-performing and full-service 3PLs offer a broader portfolio of logistics functions and typically value-added services that span the end-to-end supply chain and have specific industry variations that customers can leverage. They understand North American logistics market drivers, regional nuances and customer needs, and translate that understanding into service offerings that are locally fit for purpose and supported by the use of leading technologies. Leaders have well-structured strategies and business models that support the continued expansion of their regional capabilities and service coverage. Customers trust and rely on Leaders to help them achieve top logistics performance within the U.S., Canada and Mexico.”

GEODIS Expands Growth in E-Commerce

New logistics centre in Oberhausen under construction

Levallois-Perret, 7 March 2019 – GEODIS will open a new warehouse in Oberhausen this summer. The 40,000 square-meter building is being built by SEGRO, a UK industrial real estate group, with which GEODIS has already implemented other major projects.

GEODIS will hire up to 500 employees for the extensive warehousing and order picking operations in Oberhausen. The combination of a strong, available pool of skilled workers and an attractive logistic location with very good transportation connections make Oberhausen the ideal choice for this new location. In addition, the logistics center will be implemented with an innovative warehouse concept that combines maximum space utilization with maximum productivity. Over the years, GEODIS has developed this industry-specific and highly automated process.

With this new opening, GEODIS is continuing to expand its long-standing e-commerce strategy. In recent years, the company has significantly expanded its contract logistics business on a national and international level with well-known companies in this sector. With Oberhausen, a total of six of the 14 logistics centers operated by GEODIS in Germany alone will specialize in e-commerce.

We have been pursuing a very successful growth strategy in this market segment for years,” says Thomas Kraus, President & CEO North, East and Central Europe. German e-commerce has been growing steadily for years. Market sales have increased to 63 billion euros in 2018, an increase of around ten percent compared to 2017.[1]  “The demand for modern and innovative logistics concepts in this area is high, because the goods are to be delivered to the end customer as quickly, cost-effectively and efficiently as possible. Thanks to our many years of experience, we have been able to develop a high level of expertise and concrete unique selling propositions in this area. This makes e-commerce one of our core competencies, both in Germany and internationally,” adds Kraus.

GEODIS Awarded “2018 Logistics Player of the Year” in Italy

The Group took home the prestigious annual prize rewarding Italian companies that stand out for innovative approaches and solutions.

181029 Canova - Da Pra - Luigi Terzi (Logistics Awards presentation)

Pietro Lucio Canova, Business Area Director for Nord East Italy, GEODIS and Dario Da Pra, Site Manager for Bologna, GEODIS with Luigi Terzi from Assologistica

With the project “Aero roll-cages conveyor system,” GEODIS in Italy has been named “2018 Logistics Player of the Year” in the Innovation category. The well-known award, organized by Assologistica in cooperation with the magazine Euromerci and the association Assologistica Cultura e Formazione, is the most important prize for 3PL players in Italy.

Roll cages represent an evolution of trolleys, in which the unit load is hooked to the plank of the trolley through an automated system. This allows the handling of flat or hanging garments, even simultaneously. The transport chain develops on an aerodynamic architecture and grants total freedom of movement in the stock flows. In a nutshell, the handling capacity becomes highly flexible and multifunctional.

There are several benefits, including considerable savings on transport and transfer times—inbound-outbound and between floors—and a displacement of up to 20 cages for hanging garments, without overloading the operators. This solution also promotes order and cleanliness in the work areas and minimizes the need for handling equipment.

While evaluating applications in different fields, from environmental sustainability to training, from the internationalization of business to ITC, the scope of Research & Development from year to year increases the ranks of companies that are candidates for our Award,” asserts Assologistica’s Secretary-General, Jean François Daher. “This is very encouraging, as it testifies to the ability of our companies to respond to the challenges of a market in which technology has long been a dominant factor in growth and development.”

Technological innovation is a crucial element for the development of logistics, one of the most sensitive factors for the entire system. An initiative like ours is 100% in 2.0 supply chain perspective and launches GEODIS in Italy towards the future,” comments Francesco Cazzaniga, Managing Director of GEODIS in Italy.

GEODIS reduces the carbon footprint of road freight between Germany and Spain by launching a new Rail-Road Service

Since February of this year, GEODIS has been running a new rail-road line for freight transport between Hendaye (French-Spanish border) and Metz (French-Germa181022 HQ_PRESSE_GEOFRET_Graphique_EN_03_HDn border). Since this summer, five to six trains per week have been using this route. Combined with a local “door-to-door” service, this alternative offering reduces congestion on European roads as well as the carbon footprint of freight on this corridor.

This new transport service is aimed at companies that export goods from Spain and Portugal to the north of France, Germany, Benelux countries and Eastern Europe, or that import from these countries, for sectors such as retail distribution, automotive and industrial.

The service is operated by GEODIS which provides an end-to-end logistics solution with a 1,100 kilometers railway line between Hendaye and Metz, with local delivery by road for the final miles. In the long term, a Paris stopover at GEODIS’ logistics platform in Bonneuil-sur-Marne is planned.

This new multimodal service will take up to 11,500 trucks off the road each year,” says Olivier Royer, Executive Vice President Road Transport at GEODIS. “Beyond the driver shortage and road congestion situation which we are currently facing, we will see a real impact on the carbon footprint of freight between France and Spain by significantly reducing CO2 emissions per ton transported.”

The “door-to-door” service operated by GEODIS includes cross-docking in its own warehouses located at each end of the line, as well as freight transport from Metz to final delivery points in Northern Europe or the Iberian Peninsula, using its own fleet of vehicles.

This multimodal solution makes it possible to achieve flows with a transit time similar to that of road haulage,” explains Olivier Royer. “In this way we can guarantee high volume transport at a reasonable cost, while eliminating certain factors such rising diesel prices, seasonal fluctuations in heavy goods vehicle transport or the cost of return trips that normally impact transport by truck.

A freight tracking and management system has also been set up to allow customers to learn the location of their shipment in real time. GEODIS also ensures its customers guaranteed service by offering alternative transport by road with the help of 3,800 vehicles from the GEODIS fleet or from its transport partners in the event of an incident.
