Geodis Wilson Sponsors Major Automotive Logistics Event in India

India, 10 December 2013

The global multimodal service provider Geodis Wilson is once again a gold sponsor at this year’s Automotive Logistics – India Conference, which takes place at the Hyatt Regency Pune from 11 – 13 December. Mark Ellis, the recently appointed Global Industry Director for Automotive, will be addressing as the conference and will be joined by several Regional Executives from Geodis Wilson.

The automotive industry in India is the sixth largest in the world and Asia’s fourth largest. It has grown to around three million units in the course of 2011-12.  The growth is attributed to the rise in the middle class population, as well as the younger demographic of the country.  India’s auto industry is going through an evolution; decreasing labour turnover, improving vehicle delivery infrastructure and signs of progress in the legislative and regulatory environment. The combination of these factors together with a pool of skilled manpower and growing technology are some positive indicators of increasing efficiency in the supply chain.

The fast pace of the auto industry’s growth and its obvious potential for the future, makes it a  key focus for Geodis.  The Company has been present in the country since 1998 and is well equipped with local expertise, experience and industry knowledge to offer integrated logistics solution for the auto Industry.

Mark Ellis will be participating in session 3A of the Conference on Thursday, 12th December.  He will present, along with colleagues from the logistics sector as well as a representative from Mahindra and Mahindra, the Indian automobile manufacturing corporation; the topic for discussion will be “Managing the Complete Supply Chain.”

Speaking prior to this key event, Mark Ellis said, “Geodis Wilson understands that the automotive industry brings its own set of challenges. We stand behind our company slogan “Expect More”. This goes beyond a brand promise; it is our commitment to the industry.   We help to drive the automotive business forward with an innovative approach to analyze supply chains and understand logistics needs for our customers.”

Geodis Wilson expands Rail Freight Services in China

Hong Kong, 26 June, 2013

Geodis Wilson, one of the world’s leading freight management companies, today announced the expansion of its Asia-Pacific operations to include domestic rail freight services in China, with intercontinental services between China and Europe also planned.

Freight transport by rail is growing in China.  It is considered a viable alternative to road transport because of its safe, efficient and environmentally friendly nature. Rail transport experiences a strong political and social support in China, which makes it certain to develop considerably in the near future. “In Geodis Wilson we follow closely the development of this segment, particularly when it involves intercontinental connections between China and Europe”, says Kim Pedersen, Executive Vice President of Geodis Wilson. “We are targeting customers who are looking for an alternative to airfreight with a longer lead time.” Rail Transportation offers the advantage of lower costs versus air freight over medium to long distance routes.  It is also the only transport mode offering an integrated transport network connecting seaports, hinterlands and economic zones over vast distances, and across political and geographical borders.

As part of a mixed rail, sea, air and road transportation solution, Geodis Wilson’s new Chinese rail freight service will offer customized, flexible, and reliable door-to-door services. Shipment of goods on container block trains as well as all pre- and post-rail transportation services will be offered. These value-adds will include, pick-up, pre-carriage and on-carriage, reloading, control of trans-shipments, railway wagon planning, freight documentation and real-time tracking and tracing.

“Each customizable solution matches our priorities of safety, timely delivery and sustainability,” explains Farhad Kayyum, Rail Freight Manager, China for Geodis Wilson in Shanghai.

Geodis Wilson will also be launching services for 20 and 40 foot FCL (full container load) and break bulk from China to Central Asia, Mongolia, Russia and Europe. Geodis Wilson wins award for Project Cargo Forwarding

Hong Kong, June 17th, 2013

Geodis Wilson, one of the world’s leading freight management companies, has been awarded the Best Logistics Service Provider – Project Cargo, at the 27th Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards (AFSCA).  SK Yeung, Managing Director Geodis Wilson Greater China, and Bill Guo, Sales Director for Hong Kong & China, received the Award during the ceremony in Beijing.

“We are thrilled that Geodis Wilson has been recognized by the industry, and we much appreciated the support our customers and industry colleagues gave by voting for us” commented SK Yeung, Managing Director, Central Eastern Northern China. “This is a huge honour for Geodis and we extend our congratulations to all colleagues and staff worldwide in winning this prestigious award.”

The key criteria for award entrants for this particular category were to provide bespoke solutions for cargoes outside the normal product range; effective and easy to us IT systems, including tracking of cargo, backed by efficient and professional customer services systems; and the ability to “think outside the box”.

Geodis Wilson design in advance all project operations and have a dedicated team on-site to ensure that each project runs smoothly.  One such project operation took place earlier this year when 3 sets of blades needed to be delivered from inner Mongolia to Hebei province. At the point when the cargo was ready, heavy snow hampered access to the wind farm park. Geodis proposed some minor civil engineering works and obtained a more appropriate trailer, therefore avoiding costly repairs to the road and delaying the operation further.

Geodis Wilson beat an impressive line-up of awards entrants and received the majority of the votes from customers and industry related experts.
