GEODIS’ AirDirect Mexico Service from Asia takes off

Global Supply Chain provider GEODIS has launched its full cargo service from Hong Kong to Guadalajara, Mexico. This new weekly service has a 22-hour real-time transit to the Mexican hub.

Operated by a chartered B747-400ERF and MD-11 F aircrafts , AirDirect Mexico represents a completely new, nonstop service in the market, providing GEODIS’ customers with a highly reliable solution and secured capacity, in addition to GEODIS’ other air cargo services, AirFast, AirFlex and AirSave.

Commenting on the new service, GEODIS’ Executive Vice President for Freight Forwarding, Eric Martin-Neuville says, “We have been encouraged by the initial bookings that we have received for our inaugural flight and expect these to rise to a threshold volume where a second, and eventually, a third flight per week, will be established.”

GEODIS’ own and direct flight service between Hong Kong and Mexico also represents one of many initiatives that are being introduced to the market as part of a regional, multimodal growth strategy. “AirDirect Mexico follows the recent launch of our Road Network service in South Asia, providing scheduled services with day-definite transit times to all major destinations in the region”, explains Onno Boots, GEODIS’ Regional President and CEO for Asia Pacific. “As part of this growth strategy, Hong Kong is GEODIS’ hub for China and Southeast Asia originated cargoes to Mexico, Latin America, USA and Europe.”

AirDirect Mexico is the newest example of how GEODIS continues to offer its customers a truly integrated, end-to-end supply chain solution with focus on day-definite and reliable transit times, complemented by the Road Network services in Asia and on-carriage solutions in Mexico, including daily scheduled intra-Mexican deliveries to all locations in the country. GEODIS continues to be a leader in innovation by finding new ways to serve customers globally. GEODIS and Arkema test the future border system intended for Brexit

GEODIS, a global expert in transport and logistics, partnered Arkema, the French leader in chemicals, to take part in the dry runs organized by French Customs to test the future customs arrangements that will be implemented in the event of a “no-deal” Brexit. GEODIS is now ready to support its customers for customs and transport operations involving the United Kingdom, whatever the Brexit scenario.

In the context of the restoration of a border between the United Kingdom and the European Union, the French customs authorities have developed a computerized system known as the “smart border” which automates the border crossing for freight vehicles. Since September, French Customs have been organizing a series of full-scale simulations with all the players concerned – including transporters, loaders, customs representatives and customs clearance software providers – to test the new system under the most realistic conditions possible.

GEODIS and Arkema jointly participated in operational trials of the “smart border” on 24 September. The two companies coordinated to organize a shipment of goods from the Arkema plant in La Chambre, south eastern France, to the United Kingdom under the conditions of a post-Brexit export operation. GEODIS and Arkema had to evaluate the advance transmission of customs documents, the coordination of logistics, the matching of customs data with that of the vehicle, and the actual crossing of the border. All of these tests were successfully achieved, enabling the shipment to cross the border safely and smoothly.

Rémi Poteau, Key Account Manager at GEODIS, said: “This full-scale dry run was key to guaranteeing the free flow of trade. This experience allowed GEODIS to prove that it is now ready to provide safe and reliable logistics services between France and the United Kingdom for its customers in the event of a ‘no deal’ Brexit. It also demonstrated that the Group is capable of handling all customs requirements through a range of high quality customs solutions in compliance with regulations.”

Sustainable footwear company Allbirds selects GEODIS to support its European E-Commerce expansion

Global supply chain operator GEODIS has been chosen by Allbirds to service sales through its newly launched e-commerce website, www.allbirds.eu which caters to 12 European markets, including Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Scandinavia. GEODIS Netherlands will manage all of Allbirds’s warehouse activities for these new markets from its central e-fulfillment hub in Venlo. San Francisco-based Allbirds, known for their sustainable trainers made from natural materials, have also announced the opening of a physical retail store in Berlin, coming later in the year. With the partnership GEODIS will significantly support Allbirds’s European expansion and strengthen its position in fulfillment of retail e-commerce.

The e-commerce business will partly consist of single product orders. Aligning with Allbirds’s mission to tread lightly on the planet, GEODIS aims for maximum efficiency and minimal warehouse movements. It has introduced a new efficient order-picking process for single-piece flow, which means that in just one pick run, all single piece orders will be selected in bulk. The products will then be labelled customer specific at the packing stations. GEODIS will also control inbound quality and is implementing an innovative new app that uses images of the shoes to identify faults and which allows the auditor to send pictures of products that don’t meet Allbirds’s high standard.

Mark van den Assem, Managing Director of GEODIS Netherlands, said: “We are very proud that Allbirds has chosen GEODIS as its warehouse partner. We believe that our knowledge of e-fulfillment and innovative warehouse solutions will contribute significantly to Allbirds’s success in the European market.”
