GEODIS receives Logistics Sustainability Excellence Award from Lenovo

Global technology powerhouse, Lenovo, has presented GEODIS with the Logistics Sustainability Excellence Award at their recent annual Global Supplier Conference 2024 in Shenzhen, China.

Since 2019, GEODIS has worked closely with Lenovo to navigate the ever-evolving supply chain landscape throughout the pandemic and after, ensuring their products reach major destinations across all continents.  GEODIS provides air, sea, and road freight services on all major trade lanes with the principal origin being China.  Over the past 5 years, teams from GEODIS and Lenovo have collaborated together to reduce lead times, control expense, streamline flows, all with the goal of CO2 emission reduction.

Lenovo has set ambitious GHG reduction targets for 2030 on its scopes 1, 2 and 3 and is committed to reach net-zero by 2050. This commitment has been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), making Lenovo one of the pioneers among PC and smartphone manufacturers with a net-zero target validated by that organization. As for GEODIS, the Group has pledged to reduce its scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 42% and the carbon intensity of subcontracted transport (scope 3) by 30% by 2030 compared to 2022.  As part of this strong commitment on both sides, GEODIS and Lenovo have entered a long-term exclusive agreement on a customized and flexible “insetting” solution for Lenovo to participate in achieving approximately 80 % CO2 reduction through a fuel switch to Sustainable Marine Fuel (SMF). SMF offers a low-carbon alternative fuel option for ocean freight and mitigates ocean transportation’s impact on climate change. Additionally, GEODIS is exploring with Lenovo to implement a solution to rate, route and allocate volumes on the aircraft type generating the least amount of emission.

Chris Cahill, GEODIS’ Managing Director, Middle East and Indian Sub-Continent, who received the award, said, ”I am deeply honored to receive the Logistics Sustainability Excellence award on behalf of GEODIS. We thank Lenovo for this recognition and the opportunity to partner in reducing emissions throughout their supply chain. This award is testament to the dedication of our teams around the globe who have been working closely with our clients and partners for many years to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to reduce our impact on the environment.”

All L-Acoustics solutions are manufactured in Europe and prior to the opening of the Singapore distribution centre, orders for customers in the Asia Pacific region were fulfilled from France. The new centre will allow the company to better support clients throughout the region, shortening delivery times and streamlining the supply chain.

L-Acoustics and GEODIS have grown a global partnership which began in 2018 when GEODIS was trusted with the distribution of the manufacturer’s products in France and Europe, with GEODIS providing L-Acoustics with global end-to-end logistics solutions covering freight,  and customs and trade compliance management. The choice to partner with GEODIS for the launch of a new distribution centre in Singapore stems from the company’s supply chain expertise and track record in setting up bonded warehouses which demand licensed storage facilities with robust security measures, skilled personnel and operational capabilities aligned with local customs regulations.  The Singapore distribution centre is a bonded/zero-GST (Goods and Services Tax — GST) facility.

“Today marks a pivotal moment for L-Acoustics as we expand our regional logistics hub network with the help of our partner GEODIS, aiming to bring our customers the same level of service worldwide” says Hervé Guillaume, CEO at L-Acoustics Group.  “The foundation of our relationship with GEODIS is built on a shared spirit of innovation and performance, and a people-first mindset.  Together, we champion hyper-care for our partners throughout all our operations.”

“This recognition of our shared values reaffirms that our commitment to excellence and care is valued by our partners,” commented Onno Boots, President and CEO of Asia Pacific and Middle East, GEODIS, “It is a testament to the strong relationships we have built, the service we provide, and the trust we’ve earned. Together, we will continue to raise the bar of excellence and support L-Acoustics in their growth.”

GEODIS obtains IATA CEIV Pharma certification for its Copenhagen hub

GEODIS, a world leader in transport and logistics, announced it has strengthened its temperature-controlled pharmaceutical shipment capabilities in Europe by obtaining IATA’s Center of Excellence for Independent Validators in Pharmaceutical Logistics (CEIV Pharma) certification for its Copenhagen site.  GEODIS now has a total of 28 CEIV Pharma certified sites across its global network in the Americas, Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Europe.

Kent Husted, Managing Director of GEODIS Denmark, who is heading a team of 140 professionals located in Copenhagen, Vejle and Odense “Denmark is one of the leading countries in the world when it comes to research, development and production of pharmaceuticals. The requirements are strict in terms of quality and selection of suppliers, which is why it made perfect sense to choose the IATA CEIV Pharma Certification for GEODIS Denmark,” he said. “Our most important goal, in general, is to help all our customers by being a good growth partner and creating quality in everything we do. When it comes to pharmaceutical transports, we have a solid global setup that can handle all transports which require temperature control. All employees involved in Pharma transport have received the right training and know what is needed to deliver the products safely to the end users and patients”, continued Husted

At its site in Copenhagen, GEODIS provides a cross dock service with a temperature range of +2°C to +8°C and +15°C to +25°C, complimented by comprehensive air, ocean and road solutions.  Strategically located for easy access to both Copenhagen airport and ocean port facilities, this hub ensures seamless transportation of goods. Pharma and Healthcare logistics is a worldwide GEODIS expertise and the company has already attracted a number of major Pharma and Healthcare customers. With this certification for its Copenhagen hub, GEODIS confirms its position as a leading player in the Pharma and Healthcare sector in Denmark and affirming its commitment to quality.

“Through our global pharma and healthcare network we can offer tailor-made solutions for our customers that comply with the requirements of GDP (Good Distribution Practice) transport. Part of our ambition is to further develop our global end-to-end logistics solutions. With last year’s acquisition of trans-o-flex in Germany, we added a wide range of services for time-critical deliveries to our portfolio and offer a fast, reliable and time-definite delivery service, which will be extended to other European countries in the coming months. As a first step in Denmark, with a newly built part of our warehouse solely for our pharma customers, we can ensure that the products are temperature monitored, before they are to be shipped across the world, whether that would be by air, ocean or road transport”, adds Thomas Kraus, President & CEO of GEODIS EUROPE.

The IATA CEIV Pharma (Center of Excellence for Independent Validators in Pharmaceutical Logistics) certification ensures that facilities, equipment, operations, and personnel meet the appropriate applicable standards, guidelines and regulations expected of a pharmaceutical manufacturer and logistics provider. It helps organizations and the entire air cargo supply chain achieve pharmaceutical handling excellence, while addressing the industry’s need for more safety, security, compliance, and efficiency through a globally consistent and recognized pharmaceutical-product handling certification.

GEODIS invests in New Container Freight Station in Singapore

Enabling customers to streamline their supply chains by offering consolidation and access to a range of multi-modal options of sea, air and/or road transportation amidst ongoing supply chain disruptions.

GEODIS, a global leading transport and logistics services provider, has announced the opening of its new Container Freight Station (CFS) in Singapore.  Strategically located within the Keppel DistriPark free trade zone,  the CFS serves as an international hub and a key node within the highly secure GEODIS Road Network, which connects major air hubs and sea ports in Southeast Asia and China. Customers have available to them a wide range of multimodal options in sea, air and/or road transportation.

With Singapore’s strategic position and excellent connectivity as a transit hub, this facility plays a pivotal role in connecting customers to the rest of the world.  The CFS is managed by GEODIS’ own network experts, enabling better control, visibility and security of customers’ cargo. In place of its predecessor, which was a co-loading facility, it provides enhanced capabilities in consolidation services, bonded storage solutions and transshipment services. GEODIS customers have access to both full-container-load (FCL) and less-than-container-load (LCL) options.

“With constant shifts of the global supply chain and competitive pressures, we recognize our customers’ need for flexibility, efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Our new CFS offers them more control over their shipments and streamlined workflows. The options for consolidation or tapping into our multi-modal network make a lot of sense, not just financially, but also environmentally,” said Lakshmanan Venkateswaran, Sub-Regional Managing Director – Southeast Asia, Japan and Korea.

GEODIS Marks International Women’s Day

Leading global logistics service provider GEODIS is taking the occasion of International Women’s Day to announce significant achievements in the Asia Pacific region (APAC) in attaining GEEIS* certification by both its Hong Kong and Singapore operations, along with underlining its female leadership roles in the region.

Following the Company’s commitment to diversity and particularly to ensuring professional gender equality, Hong Kong and Singapore are added to the already 15 countries, which have attained the GEEIS certification.  It is all part of GEODIS’ diversity and equal opportunity drive to promote initiatives creating a culture of diversity, equality and inclusion throughout its work environment globally. The success of these efforts is further evidenced in APAC with the existing appointments of female General Managers in both Japan and Taiwan and women constituting a third of the regional management board and 40% of the country management teams.

The accreditation is assessed by one of the world’s leading certification bodies, Bureau Veritas via an audit based on nine GEEIS criteria. This allowed GEODIS to present the nature of the general social environment and culture the company maintains.

Welcoming the news of the double certification, Onno Boots, President & CEO of Asia Pacific and Middle East said, “Diversity and inclusion are at the core of our culture, it is reflected in our policies, reinforced through our processes and evaluated through our feedback mechanisms. This is achieved via a number of internal initiatives including, our Employee Engagement Group (EEG), in particular, our highly successful worldwide GEODIS Women’s Network (GWN) and Mentorship program; the Leaders Engagement Group (LEG); an Individual Development Plan (IDP). We are proud of the developments we have made in this area because we truly believe that diversity is a rich resource that stimulates innovation and team performance.”

GEODIS is convinced that fostering diversity wherever and however it operates is a real opportunity to develop the skills of all employees which in turn improves individual and corporate performance. The latest achievements in the region are testimony to the organization’s commitment to these values throughout the GEODIS family.

GEODIS has made decarbonization a driving force for its transformation and is committed to a pathway for reducing its emissions aligned with the Paris Agreement.

GEODIS has pledged to reduce its scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 42% and reduce the carbon intensity of subcontracted transport (scope 3) by 30% by 2030 compared to 2022.

Confronted with the climate emergency, GEODIS is committed to a process of reducing its carbon emissions through the application of a science-based approach (the Science Based Targets initiative, or SBTi), in compliance with the goal of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5° C. This commitment concerns both direct and indirect emissions.

GEODIS has set targets of 42% for the reduction of the GHG emissions generated by its fleets of vehicles and its buildings (scopes 1 and 2) and 30% for the carbon intensity of subcontracted transport (scope 3) by 2030, by comparison with the base year 2022. These targets have been submitted to the SBTi for approval.

Marie-Christine Lombard, Chief Executive Officer of GEODIS, said: “For many years, GEODIS has been working seriously alongside its customers and partners on measuring and reducing its impact on the climate. Our new goals will further speed up the process, and they establish GEODIS as one of the most committed companies. This new phase is fully in line with the Group’s ambition to make its lines of business more sustainable and to provide our customers with innovative, sustainable and ethical logistics offerings.”

To achieve these ambitious objectives, GEODIS has defined pathways for each Line of Business and geographic region, and has taken account of all the levers necessary for decarbonization.

With regard to its own fleet, GEODIS plans to continue the transition towards alternative vehicles and modes using carbon-free or bio-sourced energies and installing suitable infrastructures for refueling and charging. Collaborative innovation is key to these transformations. As far as last-mile deliveries are concerned, GEODIS has already set a target of providing low-carbon delivery services in 40 French cities by the end of 2024.

Alongside the transition of its own fleet, GEODIS is carrying out measures to reduce GHG emissions on all forms of transport involved in its operations. Its plan entails the use of sustainable marine fuel (SMF) and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), giving support to customers seeking to optimize their flows and implement appropriate modal shifts, and permanent optimization of the efficiency of the resources employed (the latest generation planes, ships and vehicles; optimized loading and itineraries). This transformation depends on selecting subcontractors on the basis of their practices and commitments, and on supporting small road transport companies to help them carry out their own technological transition.

Reducing the carbon emissions of sites assumes a 40% improvement in overall energy efficiency as well as the availability of a minimum of 90% of low-carbon energy. Projects for new sites incorporate the most stringent environmental requirements.

Measures to achieve optimization, whether they concern routing, loading or the energy efficiency of vehicles or sites, make heavy use of increasingly sophisticated digital tools that are very much part of GEODIS’s ongoing innovation projects.

This transformation relies greatly on the commitment of GEODIS teams. A vast awareness campaign has given them a thorough understanding of climate issues, the principle being the more they understand, the better they will act. Meanwhile, the Group’s senior executives already have a climate criterion incorporated into the variable portion of their remuneration. In addition, environment-related criteria are taken into account in decision-making processes associated with acquisitions and investments.

About the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global body enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science. It is focused on accelerating companies across the world to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050. The initiative is a collaboration between Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) and one of the We Mean Business Coalition commitments. The SBTi defines and promotes best practice in science-based target setting, offers resources and guidance to reduce barriers to adoption, and independently assesses and approves companies’ targets.
